Community Stabilization

Help When & Where You Need It Most

Crisis Stabilization services provide help where you need it most…your home, your school, and your community. BHSVA provides mobile crisis stabilization to adults and children so that those who suffer from mental health crises may continue with life as planned. A mental health crisis can happen to anyone, at any time. Dealing with these crises effectively and quickly can mean the difference between remaining safe and comfortable in your home, and ending up in a hospital while your life goes unmanaged.

Services included with our community stabilization are listed below:

Mental Health Evaluations

Health levels of mental stability are professionally evaluated.

Clinical Assessment

The American Psychological Association defines clinical assessments as the systematic evaluation and measurement of psychological, biological, and social factors in a person presenting with a possible psychological disorder, which our team is credentialed to perform.

Parenting Skills

Our team can works to increase internal sense of empowerment and safety, by locating appropriate and relevant resources to continue the healing process.

Life/Independent Living Skills

According to the American Counseling Association , crisis counseling assists individuals with coping and support after a major crisis. Crisis counselors often utilize psychological first aid , which focuses on reducing acute distress, restoring physical and mental stabilization, and integrates prosocial coping skills for achieving stability. The counselors also aim to increase internal sense of empowerment and safety, as well as locating appropriate resources.

Medication Managed

Medication management is a level of outpatient treatment that involves the initial evaluation of the patient’s need for psychotropic medications, the provision of a prescription, and ongoing medical monitoring related to the patient’s use of the psychotropic medication by a qualified physician/prescriber.

Psychiatric Evaluations

A psychiatric evaluation may be needed to diagnose emotional, behavioral, or developmental disorders. Questions from the doctor are based on what you tell them, what they see, and what they read in your medical chart. Filling out questionnaires or other forms about your family history, physical and mental health history, and lifestyle may also be used for a full comprehensive evaluation.

What Is Community Stabilization Like?

Community Stabilization services are short-term and designed to support an individual and their natural support system following contact with an initial crisis response service or as a diversion to a higher level of care. Providers deliver community stabilization services in an individual’s natural environment and provide referral and linkage to other community based services at the appropriate level of care.

Interventions may include brief therapeutic and skill building interventions, engagement of natural supports, interventions to integrate natural supports in the de-escalation and stabilization of the crisis, and coordination of follow-up services. Coordination of specialized services to address the needs of co-occurring intellectual/developmental disabilities and substance use are also available through this service. Services should involve advocacy and networking to provide linkages and referrals to appropriate community-based services and assisting the individual and their family or caregiver in accessing other benefits or assistance programs for which they may be eligible.

The goal of Community Stabilization services is to stabilize the individual within their community and support the individual and/or support system during the periods 1) between an initial Mobile Crisis Response and entry in to an established follow-up service at the appropriate level of care 2) as a transitional step-down from a higher level of care if the next level of care service is identified but not immediately available for access or 3) as a diversion to a higher level of care
